Defences to change

If you want to change someone's mind you need to enhance trust. You must also ensure that the person has the capacity to hear you (not just listen).

People who don't trust each other build defences designed to protect themselves. Fear literally fortifies.

Defences limit our ability to hear.

Trust reduces defences. Trust therefore increases the capacity for us to hear.  An openness is formed towards entertaining new perspectives.

When we hear something that inspires us to do something differently we change.

It is our responsibility to ensure the people we are co creating spaces of change with are ready, primed and open to hear the change they crave.
